Roaster Operator

This position is based at our Hampton Farms Peanut Butter location in Franklin, VA.

Job Purpose

The Roaster Operator of Hampton Farms is involved in the manufacture of food products intended for the consumer. The operation and operator provide a critical step in Hampton Farms food quality and safety for producing our peanut product. Being a producer of peanut products, the roaster operator is aware of the risk involved with regard to proper temperature, speeds, bed depth, roasting color and other aspects of the facility. In the event the roaster operator is unavailable, the team lead will assume the responsibilities until the roaster operator is able to continue with production. The roaster operator backs up other shift roaster operators if/when they are not available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Expected to arrive at his/her workstation 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the shift to allow time for a proper shift passover discussion with the operator of their equipment from the previous shift.
  • Verify with supervisor/team lead that correct peanuts are being used, and Roaster log paperwork matches the Roasting Peanuts reports
  • Inspect machines, calibrates, and adjusts as required to ensure consistent operation
  • Ensure that machine is started and stopped to minimize maintenance and downtime
  • Initiate start-up procedures per company policies
  • Communicate with management to maintain constant flow and correct peanuts
  • Maintain a consistent and constant product (peanut) flow from roaster to storage bins
  • Maintain the correct temperature of the roaster, record the average temperature of the peanuts, belt speed, and bed depth to achieve the correct roast and color required for each customer
  • Record temperature readings on Roasting log. Turn in paperwork to management
  • Run a color check every 30 minutes until we have two consecutive good checks then check each hour on the roasted peanuts to ensure color meets customer requirements & inform QA dept.
  • Work with management throughout shift to ensure CCP’s are within spec
  • Ensure the right peanuts for the production schedule are selected and roasted in spec. They are delivered to the storage bins for the ingredients room in order to meet production schedule
  • Perform cleaning of roaster, roasting area, and blanching area
  • Maintaining constant vigilance for possibility of fire, through monitoring of all roasting operations
  • Able to learn how to work with high and low PH chemicals such as alpet and Alkaline cleaners every other weekend
  • Help fellow employees in other work areas as needed
  • Do any other assignments or fill out any other forms that are ask of you by your Team Lead or Supervisor

Quality Assurance Supervisor

Job Purpose

The quality assurance Supervisor of Hampton Farms is involved in the manufacture of food products intended for the consumer. The quality assurance Supervisor is a critical position in Hampton Farms food quality and safety for producing our peanut product. Being a producer of peanuts and peanut products, the quality assurance supervisor is aware of risks involved with regard to maintaining Hampton Farms quality standards, proper packaging, proper labeling, all receiving and shipments are properly inspected, and all documentation is correct and accurate. The quality assurance supervisor is trained in various areas pertaining to the job required. Duties and responsibilities of the Quality supervisor will be completed by the Quality Manager during his or her absence. This position will report to the Quality Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify with the production scheduler what products are running at the beginning of each shift.
  • Must be able to complete work required paperwork, for example: QA documents, metal detector sheets, roasting peanuts report, and weight check sheets. Must also review quality control technician’s paperwork.
  • Be able to collect samples for retains and for micro samples and be able to document. Send out samples for testing with proper paperwork.
  • Maintain daily peanut roasting counts.
  • Help manager make sure all HACCP and SQF paperwork is completed.
  • Develop with SQF Practitioner, Food Safety Defense and HACCP teams.
  • Be able to determine if a product needs to be put on hold and document when product goes on hold or if product is reworked.
  • Maintain visual pre-operational sanitation inspections prior to beginning of the day’s production to ensure food safety.
  • Maintain correct labeling and nutritional requirements on all products by following Allergen Control Program and Label Verification.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills to produce reports, programs, procedures, build files, and label printing.
  • Complete Certificate of Analysis (COA) based on micro results for finished product. Must be willing to complete other certifications needed.
  • Assist with maintaining files for Ingredient COAs, Kosher certificates, Organic Labeling, customer information, consumer complaints and shipment logs.
  • Maintaining Master Sanitation Schedule, Chemical Control Program, Sanitation Training and techniques.
  • Verify with production that all product produced meets Hampton Farms and customer quality standards. Monitor all specifications for raw materials and finished product
  • Conduct any and all Food Audits with Auditors.
  • Help with internal food audits (Food Defense, Chemicals, GMP’s)
  • Oversee with the manager the responsibilities of employees & make sure they are following guidelines, rules, schedules, etc
  • Assist Production Supervisors in any task that needs to be done.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Preferred associate degree in similar field
  • Experience with food manufacturing Principles and implementation.
  • 1-3 years’ production manufacturing experience.
  • Must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Quality Technician

Job Purpose

The Quality Technician will work in conjunction with the Production Team & Quality Assurance department as well as other Hampton Farms team members supporting processing and production requirements of Hampton Farms Peanut Butter Operations. The QA technician will be partnering with other Hampton Farms team members in being committed to delivering the best possible quality to our customers & employees in support of our mission, vision & values. This position reports to the Production Lead/Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must NOT be allergic to peanuts
  • Ability to provide correct and accurate production paperwork to the floor in a timely fashion.
  • Accurately use raw peanut lab results to adjust formulations when required.
  • Accurately completed all Quality reporting forms
  • Verify that finished peanut butter LOTS are correct. This includes all aspects of the peanut including sensory evaluation, grind, labels, best by dates, DOM, lids, containers, coding, drum seals etc
  • Provide accurate sampling of peanut butter lots for micro testing, collect and store retain samples for any future use
  • Create accurate labels for products on line 2
  • Accurately document samples for testing with proper paperwork as well as arrange for shipment to outside testing labs.
  • Perform CCP verification checks on Metal Detector and X-ray machine. Appropriately react to any CCP verification check failures.
  • Alert production team to food safety or off quality situations immediately
  • Properly identify materials that are non-conforming. Lead efforts to get non-conforming materials on HOLD; including physically tagging items, filling out quality alert and other required documentation.
  • Perform visual pre-operational sanitation inspections prior to beginning of the day’s production to ensure food safety”
  • Work with production supervision to get the line up and running if it is stopped for quality or food safety concerns.
  • Stop the line when needed to prevent further manufacture of off spec product, once you are aware of the problem
  • Perform swabbing—allergen, ATP and environmental
  • Perform quality checks such as changeover inspections, finished product sensory, evaluations of peanuts in raw or on tote line
  • Inspection of incoming materials and shipments of finished product.
  • Requires an understanding of all necessary documentation ensuring it is correct and accurate.
  • Collect samples for retains and for micro samples and be able to accurately document samples for testing with proper paperwork as well as arrange for shipment to outside testing labs.

Shipping & Receiving Associate

Job Purpose

The shipping and receiving personnel of Hampton Farms is involved in the manufacture of food products intended for the consumer. This individual needs to have an overall understanding of receiving practices, shipping practices, loading / unloading material or product. They must know the location of each storage facility, inspection techniques, final product disposition, storage, proper packaging and labeling used at Hampton Farms. Being a producer of peanut butter, the individual is aware of risks involved with regard to proper packaging, unloading and loading techniques (not damaging product, raw material, or packaging supplies), proper storage, forklift and trailer safety. They must maintain a clean and sanitary warehouse environment and must be familiar with the activity on the production floor to react if a crisis arises. This position will report to the Shipping Lead/Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to drive the Yard Truck moving trailers to and from the docks
  • Must inspect all inbound and outbound trailers/materials and complete receiving/shipping checklists.
  • Receiving & unloading trailer inbound trucks
  • Loading & Shipping outbound trucks
  • Storing all product in proper locations
  • Communicating and assisting truck drivers with paperwork for both inbound and outbound loads
  • Physically unloading material (drums)
  • Actively work to organize materials and finished products utilizing the FIFO (first in first out); with storage space and general organization in mind
  • Managing/loading/shipping dunnage, baled cardboard, scrap pallets, etc.
  • Performing yard truck jockeying functions to meet Plant’s needs.
  • Moving partials from gravity racks to stability racks to create warehouse space for full LOTS
  • Moving oldest lids/caps from back of rows to front in order to rotate stock
  • Performing physical inventory functions

Raw Peanut Dump Operator

This position will be based at our Hampton Farms location in Franklin, VA.

Job Purpose

The Raw Operator of Hampton Farms is involved in the manufacture of food products intended for the consumer. The operation and operator provide a critical step in Hampton Farms food quality and safety for producing our peanut product. Being a producer of peanut products, the raw peanut dump operator is aware of risk involved with regard to proper sanitation procedures, receiving procedures, forklift/trailer operation procedures, peanut inventory and rotation, and following production schedules for correct dumping of peanuts. The raw peanut dump operator is trained in various areas pertaining to the job required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Expected to arrive at his/her workstation 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the shift to allow time for a proper shift passover discussion with the operator of their equipment from the previous shift.
  • Verify with supervisor/team lead that correct peanuts are being used, and record on raw dump report. Attach peanut tickets to the report
  • Do an inventory of raw peanut product every morning. Fill out inventory reports
  • Sample and weigh random bags from loads
  • Use flashlight / Black light to inspect trailers and bags for potential rodent/ insect infestation
  • Once lot of peanuts is completely dumped, turn paperwork in to the quality department
  • Maintain a consistent and constant product (peanuts) flow from peanut dump station to the roaster entrance
  • Maintain First In First Out rotation
  • Verify bulk tank is emptied and cleaned before dumping a new type of peanuts. Watch the flow and volume in tanks to prevent overflow
  • Clean peanut storage area, 4 pack. bulk tank, and sweep floor constantly
  • Able to learn how to work with high and low PH chemicals such as alpet and alkaline cleaners for cleaning every other weekend
  • Help fellow employees in other areas when needed
  • Do any other assignments or fill out any other forms & paperwork given to you by your Raw Lead, team lead, and/or Supervisor

Ingredient Operator

Job Purpose

To be involved in the manufacture of food products intended for the consumer. The Ingredient operator provides a critical step in HF food quality and safety for producing our peanut butter products. Must work in conjunction with production supervisor and quality assurance department as well as other Hampton Farms team members. Being a producer of peanut products, the ingredient operator is aware of risks involved with regard to proper formula usage, correct ingredient feed rates, peanut flow from correct bin to milling, rework, and other aspects of the facility. The ingredient operator must maintain a clean and sanitary operation. The ingredient operator is trained in various areas pertaining to the job required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify that the mill hopper is cleaned and sanitized
  • Maintain a consistent and constant product (peanut) flow from the storage bins to the jar filler or bulk station
  • Understand the process flow of the product from the time it enters the primary bin and weight belt feed to bin in ingredients to the filler on package line, and / or bulk station
  • Vacuum any dust off ingredient bags before dumping into bins
  • Run the hot oil flush system for product clean out and sanitation
  • Understand the re-work system and percent feedback rate of product allowed by management—fill out all associated paperwork for traceability
  • Record lot numbers of each ingredient used in production
  • Record any downtime, length of time and explanation on downtime report sheets
  • Follow the FIFO (first in first out) procedure for ingredients usage.
  • Maintain adequate levels of each ingredient being used. Verify the correct rates and record on the ingredient Feed Rate Form. Turn paperwork into management
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area during each shift by sweeping & mopping the ingredient floor, wipping hoppers, sweeping platform deck, and emptying trash cans. At the end of the shift sweep the ingredient floor area
  • Help fellow employees in other areas where needed
  • Any other work assigned by the production shift supervisor or team lead
  • Complete any other reports or forms assigned by management
