Job Purpose

The QA technician will work in conjunction with the Production Team & Quality Assurance department as well as other Hampton Farms team members supporting processing and production requirements of Hampton Farms Peanut Butter Operations. The QA technician will be partnering with other Hampton Farms team members in being committed to delivering the best possible quality to our customers & employees in support of our mission, vision & values. This position reports to the Production Lead/Supervisor and the Quality Supervisor/Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must NOT be allergic to peanuts
  • Ability to provide correct and accurate production paperwork to the floor in a timely fashion.
  • Accurately use raw peanut lab results to adjust formulations when required.
  • Accurately completed all Quality reporting forms
  • Verify that finished peanut butter LOTS are correct. This includes all aspects of the peanut including sensory evaluation, grind, labels, best by dates, DOM, lids, containers, coding, drum seals etc
  • Provide accurate sampling of peanut butter lots for micro testing, collect and store retain samples for any future use
  • Create accurate labels for products on line 2
  • Accurately document samples for testing with proper paperwork as well as arrange for shipment to outside testing labs.
  • Perform CCP verification checks on Metal Detector and X-ray machine. Appropriately react to any CCP verification check failures.
  • Alert production team to food safety or off quality situations immediately
  • Properly identify materials that are non-conforming. Lead efforts to get non-conforming materials on HOLD; including physically tagging items, filling out quality alert and other required documentation.
  • Perform visual pre-operational sanitation inspections prior to beginning of the day’s production to ensure food safety”
  • Work with production supervision to get the line up and running if it is stopped for quality or food safety concerns.
  • Stop the line when needed to prevent further manufacture of off spec product, once you are aware of the problem
  • Perform swabbing—allergen, ATP and environmental
  • Perform quality checks such as changeover inspections, finished product sensory, evaluations of peanuts in raw or on tote line
  • Inspection of incoming materials and shipments of finished product.
  • Requires an understanding of all necessary documentation ensuring it is correct and accurate.
  • Collect samples for retains and for micro samples and be able to accurately document samples for testing with proper paperwork as well as arrange for shipment to outside testing labs.
  • Ability to determine if a product needs to be put on hold and document when product goes on hold or if product is to be reworked.
  • Will be responsible for generating report forms, building files and labeling.
  • Assist quality Supervisor or other team management in any task, forms, or paperwork that needs to be done as assigned.

Additional responsibilities (Food Safety):

  • Have a general understanding of HACCP, SQF, operating procedures and Food Safety Sanitation Including the duty to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Duty to report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action
  • Duty to report illness or bodily fluid contamination that could impact food safety

  • Less than 15% downtime for line 1 and 20% downtime for line 2
  • Work with team members maintaining daily sanitation by cleaning work area at end of shift.

Food Safety – Quality Assurance Manager

Overview:

Food Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for implementing and managing the facilities food safety programs. They abide by regulatory authority, SQF, and company policies. They do so by training and hiring staff, and implementing policies, strategies, and methodology testing.

Pay: $85,000.00 – $105,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the quality control aspects of raw materials and finished products
  • Prepares reports on each test preformed for measuring quality, quantity, and composition
  • Computes formulas, percentages or production specific factors using chemical and mathematical procedures
  • Assist in setting quality standards and ensure that production is maintained at such standards
  • Sample and identify, if any, bacterial or non-desirable excess material
  • Prepare graphs, charts, and reports from test results
  • Responsible for maintaining the long-term continuity of production and service quality
  • Completes tests required for food product packaging
  • Keep records of all tests that have been carried out
  • Perform quality control analysis including tests and inspections of products and processes
  • Maintain the corporate quality manual and quality records
  • Review and report the principle causes of quality loss and non-conformance
  • Ensure all check sheets are correctly completed, and all non-compliance found have had the correct action taken and signed off
  • Arrange, coordinate, and participate in external and internal quality audits
  • Work and Coordinate pickups and testing with third part lab
  • Train, and hire quality assurance team members

  • Serve on Food Safety team, Co-Chair Food Defense Team, hold team meetings and other responsibilities as defined.

Quality Assurance Supervisor

This position will be based at our Hampton Farms location in Springfield, MA.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for supervising the quality and food safety activities, as well as participating in quality and food safety initiatives, projects, training, and investigations. Direct reporting to the Quality Manager.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year

Essential Job Duties

  • Assures Quality conformance to specifications and expectations for all products and processes.
  • Executes the disposition of held goods (raw, finished, and in process), and communicates with the Quality
  • Manager regarding holds, rework, destruction, etc.
  • Applies the principles of our Safe Quality Foods (SQF) programs.
  • Develops/trains quality team members and other plant personnel in quality awareness, food safety, and other related areas.
  • Performs auditing and monitoring of SQF program effectiveness and conformance.
  • Performs plant food safety, GMP, and quality audits according to program.
  • Reviews and signs quality and food safety documents.
  • Investigates and responds to consumer and customer complaints as assigned by Quality Manager.
  • Coordinates with the plant QA Manager and corporate FSQA personnel on program development and review, root cause analysis, and software program implementation.
  • May perform other duties as required.

A Bachelor’s degree is a science or related field is preferred. Three years’ experience in food manufacturing or a related field is preferred.

Travel Required

Minimal travel required. Must be willing to occasionally travel (estimated once every 3 years) to corporate headquarters in Severn, NC or other plants for training, continuous improvement, or other initiatives.

Quality Assurance Lead

This position will be based at our Ready Roast location in Madera, CA.

Pay: $21.00 – $27.00 per hour

SUMMARY

Perform process checks throughout the production, packaging, sanitation and warehousing functions of the company, including pre-operational checks, sanitation verification, label checks, net weight checks, package integrity checks and organoleptic checks. This position will report to the Assistant Quality Manager.

Pay Range: $21.00 – $27.00 per hour depending on experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate with production to ensure that products meet the established customer standards and notify the production team and QA management when problems occur
  • Direct & Assist the QA Technicians while verifying completion of all daily tasks
  • Initiate Hard Holds when necessary on non-conforming product, including labeling, segregating the product (systematically and physically), and sending an email communication to management reporting the issue
  • Conduct weekly environmental swabs and update file weekly with results
  • Calibrate laboratory test equipment.
  • Communicate, schedule and execute sample submittals to external laboratories for batch testing.
  • Provide independent oversight of processes, verifying compliance with company standards and policies, and effectively communicating when there are deviations from standards or processes.
  • Review and sign production and QA documentation within 7 days of production, including HACCP critical control points, to be SQF compliant
  • Inventory lab supplies, equipment, and chemicals to notify when the lab needs to place another order
  • Organize, file, and manage production folders and retains
  • Conduct research on Quality Assurance issues and deliver reports on research to management.
  • Review and enforce the Company’s food safety, quality and regulatory standards in addition to 3rd party auditor requirements
  • Works evenings and weekends as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, food industry preferred
  • Basic math and literacy Basic computer operation skills
  • Ability to understand and operate basic product testing equipment
  • High level of organizational skills, including written and verbal communication, creative problem solving, and commitment to company goals
  • Knowledge of food safety principles – such as HACCP
  • Knowledge of GMP’s
  • Ability to speak to groups
  • Identify improvements to food safety systems
  • Certificate in food science or related subject a plus
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
