General Sanitation

This position is based at our Hampton Farms location in Portales, NM.

Purpose:

General sanitation of Hampton Farms will directly report to the Quality Assurance Manager. The position will have dotted line communication to the Plant Manager and/or Production Manager. General sanitation is involved in overseeing and participating in the cleaning, sanitizing, and general safety duties of the facility. He/She holds a critical position in Hampton Farms sanitation for producing our peanut products. Being a producer of peanuts and peanut products, this person is aware of risks involved with regard to keeping all areas of the facility clean and sanitary. The general sanitation is trained in SSOP’s pertaining to the job and equipment required and in all aspects related to the company safety programs. This person is trained in various cleaning procedures as applicable to a peanut processing facility. General Sanitation employee must maintain a clean and sanitary environment and must be familiar with the activity on the production floor to react if a crisis arises.

Pay Rate: $13.00 – $15.00 per hour

Essential Duties and Description: include the following though other duties may be assigned:

  • Work in conjunction with plant management and staff towards continuous improvement and support/enforce the Hampton Farms sanitation guidelines set forth.
  • Maintain a sanitary work environment that promotes employee cleanliness and meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Partnering with other Hampton Farms team members in being committed to delivering the best possible experience to our customers and employees in support of our mission, vision, and values.
  • General Sanitation is to ensure that all areas of the plant are maintained in accordance with the Master Sanitation Schedule; (ex. Restroom, break room, offices or production area).
  • Maintain a level of housekeeping and cleanliness required to meet the standards of a food processing facility that insure passing any regulatory and/or customer inspection.
  • Conduct visual inspections verifying that all processing, packaging, warehousing and support areas are clean for the next production day.
  • Provide training and guidance to both new and existing sanitation crew employees.
  • Knowledge of Floor Scrubber, chemical/water ratio for the sanitation equipment.
  • Understand the operating principals and functions of the various processing and packaging equipment
  • Where necessary know how to disassemble and reassemble both processing and packaging as needed per the SSOP’s.
  • Maintain a standard of cleanliness in accordance with that of a food processing operation in all satellite areas of the plant such as the: Rest Rooms, Break Room, Locker Rooms, Offices, and other areas.
  • Maintain the exterior areas of the plant as required.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and chemicals, monitoring usage in addition to ensuring the security of the chemical cage.
  • Maintain supplies (gloves, paper towels) for production area.
  • Maintain supplies for break room (plates, cups, napkins, coffee) and bathroom (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and hand sanitizer); ensure all supplies are efficient before shift ends.
  • Verify all chemicals and containers being used are correctly labeled. Do not mix chemicals or put a chemical into a container that is not labeled correctly. Maintain current SDS sheets on file and posted for all chemical used in the plant
  • Motivate staff to make an effective and efficient team.
  • Any other duties assigned by management.

  • Assists in identifying and/or reporting non-conforming product to aid in eliminating waste.
  • ANYONE who is aware of a food safety/quality issue is to stop production immediately and inform Quality Assurance and their Manager or Supervisor of the food safety/quality issue(s) to determine whether or not product/material should be placed on hold.

  • Knowledge of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure all chemical containers are labeled and used in the correct way.
  • Ensure overall compliance and adherence to sanitation schedule and or requirements.

** If a General Sanitation member is absent other persons with the same skill level will complete duties described above. The Quality Assurance Department will be the designee. **

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends.
  • Ability to clearly present recommendations/ideas and to summarize issues.
  • Ability to appropriately handle and maintain confidential material.

Desired:

  • Must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Second language (Spanish), a strong plus
